Methodology
- The power of the system is the discharge power in MW that is capable of being instantaneously discharged to the grid. If a system is limited by interconnection capacity, interconnection capacity is the power rating report.
-
Similarly, the energy rating is provided as the MWh AC that can be delivered to the grid at the point of interconnection.
-
Wherever possible, we have tried to use the location of the physical system, but this information is not available for all projects. If the precise latitude and longitude of a project are not available, coordinates of the city or county are used in lieu of the precise location. If you know the location of a system, please use our Submit a Correction form to let us know!
-
This is a community-led and public-based effort - we have done our best to present the information based on the best available data. Please contribute to make the database stronger and more accurate using the "Submit a Correction" or "Inquiry" forms.
-
We chose to list power (MW) because this is the most relevant value of energy storage to the grid: the ability to provide instantaneous power to satisfy demand.
-
The physical size of a project (number of BESS enclosures) depends on the energy (MWh) of a system. Check back soon as we plan to add an energy-based map and ranking.
-
The satellite data is updated periodically, and may not show the physical battery installation even if the coordinates of the site are correct. We recommend checking the point on Google Earth, which may have more accurate satellite data then the MapBox satellite view which is used here.
